ATLANTA — What might have been a routine resolution honoring President Obama became a flashpoint Friday in the Georgia House of Representatives. Angry black lawmakers walked out of the chamber, accusing white Republican leaders of racism when they delayed the resolution for a second time.
The resolution congratulates Mr. Obama on becoming the first African-American president and makes him an honorary lifetime member of the Georgia Legislative Black Caucus.
But that is not the sticking point, said Representative Austin Scott, the Tifton Republican who first raised questions about the resolution on Tuesday.
